No. the average player will not make money playing Texs Holdem online. The majority of online players do not win anything at all, they simply donate their chips to the better players.

A skilled player can win money playing online, if you choose the right sites and play a tight agressive game.

Since you said you are thinking of learning Texas Holdem, you really should develop your skill levels before you play for any money, It is a bit different from stud, lol.

Here is a link that may help, a page of information, strategy, tips and advice on Texas Holdem. http;//www.thedoverpro.com/poker.htm

Good luck!

If you plan to play lower limits and stick to that, yes. Practice good table selection (play games against weak players) and a tight aggressive game should be a long term winner. You should also invest in poker tracker to plug any leaks you may have. The big thing to remember online is that you don’t just make money at the tables. Every site has a bonus, so play bonuses that are large and easy to clear so you are making profits from playing and from clearing bonuses. has reviews of every important bonus on the internet and guides to building a bankroll. You should also look into rakeback.

The big thing to remember about online is you can get overwhelmed. Don’t play too many tables. Stick to one at first, then maybe add a second when you feel comfortable, and go from there. Alot of people decide to just play 4 tables from the start and lose their shirt.

Yes and no. Many micro limit hold ‘em games are like home games as far as skill is concerned. The problem that many average players run into is adjusting to online play. If you are used to playing 20 hands per hour and seeing a few bad beats here and there, you’ll be in for a surprise.

The anonymity of the internet allows bad players to play worse without having to show their face. With the increased hands per hour, and with 7-8 people seeing each flop, you’ll see a lot of bad players chase cards they like…and hit…a lot. When players can’t understand this, they get the impression that sites are rigged rather than seeing the faults in their own game.

But if you can recognize betting patterns, timing, and take notes on players (available on the poker software, itself) you can turn a decent return on investment.

Well, technically the correct answer is no. Keep in mind that the term “average” means you’re of about the same skill level as everyone else at the table, and if that’s the case, the game of poker is a negative expectation game because of the rake.

However, it does not take a who lot of skill to win at the micro limit tables. Many of the people at the .01/.02 NL tables won a couple of bucks in a freeroll and are looking to go all in at the first opportunity. It does not take much skill to beat these games, just keep in mind that on average you’re only going to be making like 20 cents per hour.

As you venture of the ladder of buy in limits, considerably more skill is needed. I would guess that many of the people playing at the $.50/$1.00 NL tables are of similar skill to the people playing at the $2/$5 NL tables in Las Vegas. So if you can’t beat the $500 buy in tables out here, you’re not going to fair that well at the $100 buy in tables online.
